Outlook 2000 issue with timeout period

How do I extend the timeout period of Outlook’s dial-up and connection? I need to have Outlook wait about 5 seconds more before it gives up attempting to connect to get e-mails. I have a feeling I need to go into the registry. Any help would be appreciated.
