On several occasions, I have found that Outlook 2000 “forgets” the location of its Personal Folders (.PST) file.
The user logs on to the NT server with no problem, and when starting Outlook 2000, a new empty .PST file is created (in Outlook’s default location).
The original .PST file is still where it should be, whether this is on a server or on a custom location locally.
I can then go to Control Panel -> Mail, delete the incorrect Personal Folders reference and add the correct one, pointing to the original .PST file, and Outlook will then use the correct file. Then Outlook may be running fine for months, and then the same thing may or may not happen again.
I might emphasize that this problem has occurred both on systems with the .PST file located on an NT server, and with the .PST file stored locally.
All other connections to the server works fine.
Does anyone know why this can happen, and how I can prevent this from happening again?
