Outlook PST Issue

Client is running Outlook 2000 on an XP Pro machine. When adding a new contact it is “saved as” SMTP. All the contact info is correct but they all show up as SMTP. 2nd issue: When adding an appointment in the calender it does not show up on the screen yet it does show up on his pocket pc after syncing.
Scanpst.exe shows no problems but I created a new pst file anyway & imported the data. The problems persist. I checked for font\screen color issues on the calender problem but could find nothing. No errors show up in event logs. Also removed & reinstalled outlook. E-mail is pop\smtp. Any thoughts would be appreciated
