Post Installation DNS Configuration-NT4

by bobbys . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

I’m trying to resolve some issues in my Windows NT based network. The issues seem to revolve around resolving the server names of my two NT servers. The servers are currently configured as two PDCs. On PDC is running DHCP and has the DNS service installed but not configured. Our server names are Genesis and Exodus, domain names are genesis_domain and exodus_domain, and the IP addresses are in the non-public 192.168.0.x family. Our internet connection is through a router using NAT, so, our public IP address and internal IP addresses are not in the same scheme. All the naming conventions for our network omitted the .com, .org and .net suffixes.

What would be the most proper way to configure DNS in this scenario? I am a somewhat inexperienced administrator so details will be helpful.

One end goal of this project is to properly authenticate a Mac user for access to our Exchange 5 server using Outlook for Mac.
