Since upgrading all or our NT machines from SP3 to SP6 late last year, running ‘Repair’ on a corrupt installation from the original NT media no longer works.
The MS knowledgebase article Q196603 has instructions on how to create a modified/hybridI386 directory using the original directory from the NT CD, and replacing 6 security related files with those from SP4+.
I have had trouble with this approach, as the original I386 directory contains compressed files, and all service pack CD’s contain expanded files. Compressing the files first did not seem to work.
Can anyone offer any advice on this problem?
