I’m trying to put together a computer for my granddaughter for Christmas. I have installed an old Seagate 120GB IDE hard drive from my computer that I knew worked. I also installed two Plextor DVD RW drives that were also working. I installed Windows XP home on the drive & it installed fine. When the machine rebooted after installation it came up with the error message: primary slave drive atapi incompatible. I don’t have any other hard drive in the computer, so there isn’t a slave drive on the cable with the hard drive. The hard drive is jumpered as master. I have the DVD drives on a different cable & they’re jumpered as one master & one slave. I checked the bios to make sure all the drives are detected correctly & they are. The boot sequence is now HD, then CD/DVD. I can’t seem to get past this error. If I press F1 it goes ahead & goes into Windows, but I don’t want to have this child have to deal with this. Please help, what do I need to do to fix this problem? I need this computer finished before Tues. evening!!!
