User has Windows NT 4.0 with Office 2000. He had downloaded and installed the Personal Folder Backup Add-in for Office 2000 and it was working. (For more info on this add-in, see http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/2002/pfbackup.aspx)
He then added “something” (he thinks it might have been his PDA or some fax software) and now the Backup feature is no longer present in the menu options in Outlook.
He attempted to reinstall the Add-in. However, upon launching the installer, it returns an error stating that Personal Folders Backup is already installed and it must be uninstalled. It then attempts to uninstall and returns with a message stating that the application is not present and the uninstaller can only work on applications thatare installed.
The Personal Folders Backup is supposed to be listed in the Add/Remove programs entries in the Control Panel, if it is present. It is not listed there. It is also not listed in the Add-in Manager in Outlook.
I was able to findan associated dll file (outbak.dll). I removed it and tried installing again, but it still would not install.
I found an MSKB article (Q263104) that identified the following registry key for the Backup Addin:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\ 06c7e36cbe523d11e8ad000a9c118e5e
I removed this key and we still can not reinstall the Backup Add-in.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, in advance.
