I am having problems with a Win2K Professional (SP2) machine where SVCHOST.EXE has problems on startup and won’t allow half of the automatic services to start. The last app that I installed (CorelDraw 9) cannot be deinstalled as the Installer/Deinstaller requires some services which failed to start. No services can be manually started as each cites a problem with SVCHOST.EXE. Microsoft has 2 knowledge base articles regarding the problem, neither of which contain information regarding resolving the problem. The first article (Q259275) is an exact match as far as the error message goes, but we aren’t running the software they say causes the problem. The second article (Q298061) indicates a similar problem (and I believe it’s RPC related)but doesn’t provide an easy means to a fix. Support for this is around $250 via phone.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Lars.
