recovery of pst files.

A laptop in our organisation crashed and had to be rebuilt from 2K to XP, the user realised that there .PST folder was on the C:\drive, it cannot be located, is it possible that the .PST file has hidden itself somewhere on the local machine by renaming or has it gone to the abyss!!!!!!!!!
