Retrieving lost data

I recently upgraded a system from 98SE to ME. A second HDD was used to store several folders with about five gb of data. One of the folders on that second HDD was named “restore”, and apparently ME didn’t like that name, and deleated it! About two gb of data were lost… Is there any “cost effective” way to retrieve the lost data?
