Risks of downsizing the deskside team

I currently manage a deskside team with a ratio of 225/1 in a complex research environment with many non-standard apps. I’m looking for some help assessing the risk factors going from that model to 300 to 350/1 ratio. So, if you have any experience dealing with downsizing your deskside support and what it did to your support model I would appreciate your comments.
