Roaming Charges Going Overboard

I want to get some ideas and feedback from everyone on this topic. With all the technology we have it seems absurd the cost of roaming charges. One employee had a bill of $2300 for one MONTH. Does anyone have any real world solutions that have worked for them?

Two options I am spinning around are a globalsim card solution or a carry around IP phone. The current Vendors don’t really have any solution for this other than paying a few extra bucks a month to avoid the higher rates.

I admit I usually don’t delve into phones but I am now wearer of many hats so I need to find a practical solution for our global travellers. Thanks for the imput.
