Scsi host card and MO drive-freeze

New to PCs (savvy mac user): Bought used PC
at church auction, installed an old adaptec
SCSI host card. Two things on chain, Fujitsu
DynaMO 640 and Yamaha 4616 CDrw. Cdrw works
fine. But when I click on the “removable
drive” icon in “my computer”, hard freeze.
Fine until then.driver check seems fine. No
apparent disk problems. win98, amdk5 166mhz.
