Setting up a ghosting server

by shazza_t . Updated 17 years, 6 months ago

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to come up with a final project for my I.T. degree. Including the report this must equal to 300 hours work.

Our logistics department here have a ghost server with many different types of softwares and versions for the different servers dependant on our customers setup.
At the moment this is a very manual process, they are basically told what is required then do a spreadsheet lookup which informs them which drive on the server contains the images they need and then they go to that drive click click click etc.
I would like to automate this process. But am just a bit unclear as to what all is necessary to consider etc. Here is what I think is needed:
1. all images need to be catalogued in a DB e.g. mySQL
2. The ghosting software:
can create a ghost image
can write a ghsot image

I just want to know what programming language would be best to develop the software and is there more that I have not considered? Does this look like a suitable project for the manhours required?
