Should IT Departments/Divisions be unionized?

I have been working for the last five years in a union controlled IT Shop. Its my first time ever in an IT position that had a Union.
As a first for me I have found it frustrating because of lack of support from the Union, while I pay fat union dues out of my paycheck.

Should IT Divisions/Departments be unionized?
