Signiture, Ghosting and 2000 Server

Is there some new technology with HDs. Because I am trying to ghost using a computer running 2000 Ad Server but ghost would not see that HD.
I can see the hard drive on Disk Management but when the computer restarts to ghost Windows bootup gives anerror about a “signiture” . When I first installed the drive I went to Disk Management to partition it but first I had to write a signiture before I can start partitioning and formating. Did that signiture erased the boot sector because after that it seems that the drive cannot boot at all. I got 3 new drives that did the same thing 1 IBM Deskstar and 2 Seagate Barr. I work with hard drive and installing quite often but I have no idea whats going on here.
