Specialization in development

Hi,

i’ve been working as a software developer in java environments since 2 years now. However, i would like to find a specific area to dwelve more into, especially that i intend to move towards consultancy. Can java be that area (j2ee for example)? If yes do you know if certifications in that field help? If no, what are other hot areas in IT / development?

Thanks
