Matt Damon?s conflicted Jason Bourne reflects our complicated times
Our complicated times? The first book came out in 1984?
The Bourne Identity
by Robert Ludlum – Fiction – 1984
I didn’t think things were all that complicated back then, no chit. Comparing Bourne to Bond?
Ok, I think James Bond is getting old. No doubt. I also think the Bourne series was great, no doubt. But it’s going to take more then 3 movies for Bourne to unseat Bond, no lie. ;o), and there was only 3 books in that series.
Now, I know that they have continued the legacy of Ludlum’s books by having others either finish manuscripts or witting new novels. 13 books since his death. But, come on. As much as I liked the books(which are always better then the movies) and also liked the movies. I can’t ever see Bourne topping Bond, not just in 3 movies anyway.
I still love watching the gadgets and Bond getting laid with the most beautiful women. And several at that during the movie.
Just don’t see Bourne unseating Bond as king of spies. Sorry. Even though I think Ludlum was a better author then Ian Fleming.
