Encouraged by the interest in my recent “American Success” discussion, and not dissuaded by the predictable personal remarks, I would like to throw open for discussion a point of view which I have held for many years. I don’t know if it is uniquely my viewpoint, but I have not read it anywhere.
Somehow I completely missed the first series of Star Trek but honed in on Next Generation which I loved (and own the whole series on 90 VHS tapes).
Star Trek is my religion because:
1. It is set in a time when humans have outgrown the need to believe in personal gods.
2. It assumes the existence of intelligent life throughout the universe.
OK, nothing to comment on so far. Now we come to my belief. [b] Anything that can be imagined by the human mind either was, is or will be manifested somewhere in the universe.[/b]
The basis for this belief is that when a person comes up with a totally new concept about anything, it is because they are tuned into the universal or cosmic consciousness.
Being a creative person myself I am aware that, when I am creating, I am tuning into some higher consciousness which may or may not be part of my own mind.
Based on speculation that it is a source EXTERNAL to my own mind (or brain), I therefore believe that our creative imaginings are also linked to or come from some kind of universal consciousness. Religious people might simply refer to this as “God.” Others might think it is sheer bunkum.
Hence these two questions:
1. Does anyone else believe the creative part of the human mind is linked to a greater consciousness?
2. Does anyone else believe (or suspect) that anything a human can imagine was, is or will be manifested somewhere in the universe?
