Test virtual hosts before going live?

by nevernessit . Updated 21 years, 4 months ago

I am configuring Apache on a freeBSD server via Webmin to host three websites eg. www.site.com, alternate1.site.com and alternate2.site.com.
At the moment these three sites are hosted externally and I want to just copy them to the freeBSD server.
The problem is I have configured the apache config file to what I assume will work ie with the virtual hosts etc, but the only way I can see if Apache is working right is by putting in the IP address in a web browser which will show me the default website on the server (which works fine by the way.)
Is there anyway I can test to see if the virtual hosts are working correctly before I switch the domain name pointer over to the servers IP address?
I would have to switch it over and go live from the new FreeBSD server and find I have configured the virtual hosts wrong and the two sites served via the virtual hosts are not visible.
Please help! How can I test to see if the virtual hosts are working correctly while I only have access to the server via IP address?
Thanks so much in advance.
