The Vista machine is on the Ultimate version. The XP machine runs Skype c/w webcam with no problems. The Vista machine will connect to Skype but the microphone performs erratically, transmitting only the occasional word. The mike and sound card work just fine on the XP machine, so it’s not a problem with that. When I do a check of the mike on the Vista machine, it tests perfectly and I can record to a CD just fine.
The only odd thing I can find is that the Skype configuration keeps switching to “Windows Default” on boot and I have to constantly reset it. BTW I have the latest drivers installed for the sound card, so that shouldn’t be the problem. Another odd thing, the mike works in WM, which I do not like using for obvious reasons. The Vista machine isn’t my box but I do have to use it occasionally. Vista is definitely pretty but I don’t trust it and I’m not used to the layout yet. Things I can find with no problem in XP seem to require wading through a lot of fluff to find in Vista.
Is this a case of Skype not yet being Vista compatable??? The individual who runs the machine is not the most computer literate person but is not a complete klutz either. She’s adjusting to the learning curve for Vista with minor difficulties, the usual complaint being, “Why is it doing it that way. The other machine didn’t do that(the “other machine” was running XP)” I would swap machines with her but the conversion would be too long a process for me to get into at the moment. Any ideas other than reformatting and installing XP?? I was thinking of patitioning and setting up a dual or even triple boot system. On this machine disk space is definitely not a problem
