I have a user who whenever she is working on a document, created from a template, that she isnt required to save will use Ctrl F4 to close the document, and when prompted to save any changes she will select no.
She has recently been provided with another pc, which has Office 2003 installed. Now whenever she uses Ctrl F4 to close the document, as well as being asked to save the changes to the newly created document, she is also asked to save the changes to the underlying template as well.
She has logged on under her own user ID onto other machines with exactly the same setup, and the problem doesnt exist, which leads me to believe that there is something that needs to be checked/unchecked within the Word options, as the problem doesnt exist with any other user who has access to this template, nor when this user uses an altnerative pc.
As an addendum, I have now uninstalled office Basic 2003 and and installed Office SBE 2003 and the problem still exists. The problem is only on this particular machine for any user. Also the problem only occurs if the user uses CTRL F4 to close down the document. If they use keyboard shortcut of ALT F then C it works fine, in addition it also works 90% of the time with a macro using the above keyboard shortcut assigned to a different function key
And the mystery continues. Further investigations have led to me finding that 4 other pc’s have the same problem when they use CTRL + W to close a document. If said document is based on a template either a standard word one like fax letter or one of our own templates, then Word asks if you want to save the changes to the Template as wel as the document. This only happens on 5 of our 20+ machines and doesntappear to be user related. However the 5 pc’s that are causing this problem were all delviery with a trial of office 2007 pre installed, which Isubsequently uninstalled prior to installing office 2003. Ican only think that following the removal of office 2007 something erroneous was left on the pc’s that is causing the above problem.
