Using XML in Oracle

We are generating XML using Oracle 8i.
I am surprised by the lack of ducomentation on the internet for doing this. We are using Oracle’s XML API to do this.

Everyting was working wonderfully. Then we noticed that it was having problems with french characters like ?.

It would save the character as something different, then it couldn’t read it out of the database at all.
