I am new to this site, but I came across a puzzling computer problem and I thought someone here might have some good info.
We recently purchased a new laptop for one of our users. It’s an HP laptop and came loaded with Vista Home Premium. We upgraded the laptop to Vista Ultimate, but kept most of the factory installed software, and all drivers, settings, etc.
The user was getting ready to leave on a week-long trip and wanted to take his new laptop with him, and I get it loaded up with his data, added a few programs (Office, McAfee, etc), and gave him the laptop. Everything seemed to be running just fine, despite the quick install. However, a couple days later I receive a phone call from the user stating that he has none of his documents, Office isn’t installed, and it did not ask for a login like t should have (the laptop is joined to a domain). It seems as though the laptop has somehow restored to original factory settings. How is that possible? is there something that the user could have possibly accidentally done to cause this? Is there something in Vista that could have caused it? I have not had an opportunity to personally take a look at the laptop, because the user has not returned from his trip, but this sounds like a really tough problem.
Oh and to make this even more fun…the user in question is the president of the college! Please help!!!
