I did a search on this question here, but only found an article from 2001 saying Dell was the most reliable. I’m wondering if folks here can give me a more up-to-date perspective.
When I bought our last desktop, I bought a Dell b/c the tech guy at school led a committee and he recommended Dells for the school purchase. Three Dells later, the price has always been unbeatable, but I’m looking at a fair amount of hardware repairs (latest was re-applying thermal paste to my Inspiron’s CPU) that was due to what I think as shoddy worksmanship or materials. I’m thinking the money I saved (as opposed to buying HP) was more than accounted for by the cost of a heat sink, thermal paste, etc., as well as my time in troubleshooting these things.
In a month or two it will be time to get wifey a new desktop. I will consider HP, but I’m also wondering if there are any other brands that I should pay attention to. Lenovo has a great reputation, but their equipment is usually noticeably higher, spec-for-spec, than other brands.
What brands are the most reliable for PC desktops?
