Wifi Adapter Diagnostic Utility for AP connect problems ?

Is there a diagnostic utility that will trouble shoot wifi adapter, access point connect problems, when all other features of the adapter appear to be working properly, that is local networks are detected and accurately described as to specs, availability, security etc. Needed for both W2K and XP.
