It is that time of year again. Time to make sure your priorities are straight before you get too distracted with the festivities.
First, I set a firm budget on spending. Something nice and heart felt, that doesn’t hurt the pocket afterwards. Sure, people like to get really nice things, but would they if they knew the hardship that gift caused the giver?
Now with that part out of the way, does it matter WHERE you shop?
I will be celebrating Christmas with friends and family, but I know it is not the only holiday available and other people choose different flavors based on their own belief systems. cool enough.
Will you do your shopping at a place that advertises “Holiday Shopping”, or will you go to a store/website that acknowledges the specific holidays? I personally will NOT be holiday shopping, and will not be shopping in a store that refuses to say the name of the specific holidays they are making their living off of.
From visiting different web sites, I really was surprised to find that borgmart has the most prominent mention of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, right on the home page, right up front. I have never been a fan of this store, but believe they will be getting much of my CHRISTMAS shopping business because they are selling CHRISTMAS presents.
Some of the others you could find reference if you dug down, and Kohl’s only referred to it as Dec 25th. The ONLY place I even found the word Christmas was on the shipping page. Sorry Kohl’s, but it is unlikely you will see me this year.
A few of the other major chains had me looking, but was able to find Christmas trees, ornaments, and other gifts after looking for a bit. Who is going to buy a Holiday tree? Not me.
Should a store that gets a large chunk of their yearly profits off of YOUR chosen holiday acknowledge the specific holidays, or should they turn it all to vanilla, removing all references to each?
