win 2000 won’t detect new modem/ethernet controller problem

I have been having trouble with internet conductivity for a while after someone “helped” me with my computer. I had a realtec modem in there that worked sometimes (only after I tried to degrag the machine – that’s another story as it won’t defrag past 25%). I had to re install a Hawking modem in there (cable modem) and now the computer won’t detect the Hawking modem and keeps saying that there’s a real tec modem there.

In addition, my ethernet connection has the yellow exclamation on it. I’ve searched for drivers for the Hawking unit and for the ethernet controller. YIKES!

These are the numbers I took off the Hawking unit:

GT5 (or S) FC 205L5 k311G
RT L8139D (or 0) 32229Q1

Can’t find drivers for that anywhere.
