windows 95 lost CD-ROM

I added memory to my computer. Now my computer does not allow my cd-rom to work. I ask windows to detect hardware. It suceeds Then the next time I turn on the computer it does not work nor does it show up in ‘my computer’. I reinstall and it loses it each time the computer starts up.
