Windows can’t detect PS2 to USB mouse

I have a PS2 mouse which I’m connecting to my computer using a PS2 to USB adapter. However Windows can’t seem to detect the PS2 mouse and the error message “USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED” keeps popping up. Is there any driver that I should install to enable windows to detect my mouse?
