This SHOULD be a bonehead easy fix, but it’s got my network guru and me stumped.
Situation: I run a small network; Proxy (web) server is Linux, with Smoothwall 0.9.9 for our firewall. Email server is Linux-based also, but our fileserver is Win 2K server. All clients are XP Pro (except mine, which is Win 2k Pro). The proxy server NAT’s the external IP address to an internal 192.168.100 network, and it serves as the primary DNS. This is a simple, small domain with only 9 or 10 clients. The fileserver is the secondary DNS. One of the clients, amidst an office move, had a bad connection, which we narrowed down to a simple NIC problem- the cable connection wasn’t solid, so I simply replaced the NIC with identical brand/type/drivers. The client’s permissions weren’t in any way touched. I kept the same IP for her (192.168.100.60).
The problem: the client got email and Web access just fine, but the fileserver WILL NOT acknowledge her, find her, let alone give access to the previously-mapped public drive she uses all the time. The user and the box are listed in the Active Directory on the fileserver, but say her computer ‘cannot be found’. Her box ‘can’t find the network’. I feel like a doof not being able to get her back on the domain, and even called the guy who set this up. After he fought with it for over an hour, he was stumped as well. In past times, losing email or the Web has been the problem, not losing the domain.
Is this a Windows or Linux problem? Thanks for helping!!!
