We are running a network with 9 workstations running Windows XP SP3 connecting to a server 2003 starndard edition box. Workstations were working proplerly when they were first installed now randomly they all have a problem loading explorer.exe. The system will be at a login screen but when you sign in the xp workstations it just loads up the backround with no explorer. I have researched this problem and there are many fixes. I have already run:
1.)sfc /scannow
2.)reinstalled SP3
3.)checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe It was not there to delete
4.)ran malwarebytes nothing found
5.)did a search for explorer.exe and found 3 one in C:\windows one in c:\i386 and one in c:\windows\system32.
Which one is right? what is the best way to determine this?
how many are there supposed to be? So people say one in the windows folder and that is it. can I delete the others? Any suggestions besides what i already did would be very helpful. Thanks
