Wont boot just goes to f8 screen

My laptop is decently old, it had windows 2000. i just got it from my dads work i didnt know the passwords so i didnt have a wind. 200 disk so i but in an XP disk and it restored fine butit just goes the the f8 screen when i turn it on and restarts when i choose “last config” option any other modes just freeze.. when i put back in hte disk all it says is
“1. restory windows XP” “2.boot to command prompt” which just alows me to type with A:\> in front of it on the screen
