Word 2000

A friend who has “Word 2000” has a problem that i can’t figure out. If someone could help i would appreciate.
When they open “Word” to write a new document, an old deleted file appears on what should be a blank page! We have tried many things to clear this, but every time it is opened this document appears. We have deleted this file from the disk as well, but still cannot open a blank page when restarted.
Please HELP.
