word 2007 – lost edit capability

I have been using Office 2007 for several months. Yesterday in word 07 I lost the ability to edit. Both mouse and touch pad will not let me select an insertion point within a document.
I have uninstalled office 07, reinstalled – no fix. I repaired – no fix.
When I close word 07 I bet a box – not an error message – that says word has stopped working. It tries to auto fix but says ‘A problem caused the program to sto working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.’ I haven’t heard from them.

Any ideas?
