Word bottom margin page number

I have a word document that has page numbers at the bottom center of the page. The page number used to be at the very bottom of the page, but now it is well above it and looks like it is part of the numbers in the document. I have tried the bottom margin at .1, .2, and .3 and it does not change it position on the page. How can I get this page number to print lower on the page?? I am stumped. Please help.
