XP SP2 won’t boot;

On AMD laptop; laptop can’t recognize keyboard strokes, just runs through bios and hangs in black screen with blinking prompt. USB keyboard attached but only ctrl-alt-delete gets response, which is to reboot, no other keys effect this sequence. How can I boot into XP if the keyboard strokes are ignored?!? I have an install CD.
