Microsoft’s Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition costs $899.99, $100 more than the standard $799.99 Xbox Series X. Preorders are open now, with the anniversary console launching November 13.

That extra $100 does not buy faster hardware. The two consoles share the same processor, graphics hardware, memory, 1TB storage, disc drive, and performance targets.

The X25 premium instead covers its limited-edition design, matching controller, numbered chassis, and included Halo: Campaign Evolved download.

Storage 1TB NVMe SSD 1TB NVMe SSD
Disc drive 4K UHD Blu-ray 4K UHD Blu-ray

What does the extra $100 buy?

Microsoft’s X25 product page lists an eight-core custom Zen 2 CPU running at up to 3.8GHz, a 12-teraflop custom RDNA 2 GPU, 16GB of GDDR6 memory, and a 1TB custom NVMe SSD.

Those specifications match Microsoft’s standard Xbox Series X, including the 4K UHD Blu-ray drive, true 4K gaming, and performance of up to 120fps. Both consoles are also listed at 9.8 pounds with the same dimensions.

The difference is the package. Every X25 has a translucent OG Green shell inspired by the original Xbox and an individually numbered engraving. Microsoft says it is the first translucent design offered for Xbox Series X.

It also comes with the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition, which Microsoft sells separately for $79.99. The controller uses the same translucent green styling with design details based on the original Xbox.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is included as a full-game digital download. Microsoft says the content is delivered directly during console setup and becomes attached to the first Microsoft Account that redeems it, something to remember if the console will be shared or eventually resold.

The standard Series X also includes a controller, so adding the standalone X25 controller’s full $79.99 price to the regular console does not produce a clean value comparison. The $100 difference instead represents the combined premium for the special controller treatment, Halo, and collectible console design.

Should you buy the Xbox Series X25?

For performance alone, there is no reason to spend the extra $100. Microsoft’s published specifications show no CPU, GPU, memory, storage, or gaming-performance advantage over the standard Series X.

The standard model is therefore the better buy for anyone who simply wants Series X performance. Its current $799.99 price followed Microsoft’s latest Xbox console price increase, which took effect August 1 after the company cited sharply higher memory and storage costs.

The X25 makes more sense for collectors, Halo fans, or buyers who already want the X25 controller. Each console is individually numbered, preorders are limited to one per customer, and Microsoft says availability is restricted to select markets while supplies last. It has not disclosed how many units will be produced.

There is also a timing question. Microsoft is already developing its next-generation Xbox platform, Project Helix, while bringing a more console-like Xbox Mode to Windows 11. Buyers primarily interested in performance rather than the anniversary design may prefer to spend less now or wait for more details on the next hardware generation.

The X25 also arrives during a broader reset of Microsoft’s gaming business, although Microsoft has not indicated that the restructuring changes the November launch.

For most buyers, the standard Xbox Series X is the stronger value. The X25’s $100 premium buys exclusivity and bundled extras, not more frames, storage, or processing power.
