2 pcs n/w not talking

I have 1x Win2K and 1x Win98 connected by 10/100 crossover into NICs.

From Win2K, I can ping the IP address and the host name with success.

From Win98, I can ping IP address only, even though I have an lmhosts file on the 98.

The 2K contains a user and password matching the MS Client login from the 98, and I have a firewall that accepts all traffic from the 98’s IP address.

What steps do I take to network them properly?
