I need some help with this one. I have a desktop, named “Desktop” and a laptop named “Laptop”. “Laptop” is winXP and normally connects to a Domain (“Domain”). “Desktop” is win2000 and nevers sees “Domain”, thus it is in Workgroup. When i bring the laptop home, I would like to connect it to the deskto to share files. I have a RoadRunner cable modem, connect to a 4 port hub. I connect both machines to the hub and they see the internet without fail. The intnernet connection passes out IP’s. I can ping both machines. I log on to the laptop just like I do at work and to the local machine, same results. Is there something wrong with the IP’s for the NN? the 1st and 2nd Octet? is the same, but the 3rd is differnet, as is the 4th (expected), the subnet is the same on both (255.255.248.0) I can do start run \\ip address and see the machines, but I can run \\ip\sharename…What am I forgetting?
