2003 box Rooting/dhcp/pppoe & vm not bridging correctly, help.

by leossignupaccount . Updated 17 years, 4 months ago

I’m new at this, and I might be doing some minor/(or big) thing wrong, could some one give me a hand please?

I’ve set up a 2003 box (called it: LeosServer) to act as my home router. I.e (dhcp + routing and remote access)

it works lovely on the network, my machines on the network receive ip’s (10.10.10.xx range) and they get proper internet and all.

Problem:<<<<<<<<< However, locally there's a routing problem. I'm using vm Ware server/workstation. I create vm's with bridged networking. I got as far as them receiving correct ip's from my dhcp service (10.10.10.xx). But the internet doesn't work on it, and I can't figure out why. More about the setup>>>>>>>>>> internet connection.
I’ve got 2 nic adapters, (LanAdapter: which is my 1gb to the local network, and ispAdpter: here i plug in an ethernet cable from my isp). I dail into the internet using pppoe, > ispAdapter.

>>>>>>>>>>>.. dhcp
the dhcp works on the LanAdapter network, and I’ve bridged vmWare to the LanAdapter.

If withing a vm machine on the LeoServer, i can ping other computers on the private network alight, (ping LeosLaptop 10.10.10.10,, ok), but if i try to ping the local server, all i get is: 192.168.2.1 which is the wrong ip range altogether.

>>>>>>>>>>>> routing
I’ve set up a nat, with a dail in connection, which dails my isp.
Porting to remote computers works fine.
that’s all I’ve done, I haven’t configured any internal loops.

Set up a “win”

I’ve already found the vm ware kb article:
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1007250&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=10781206&stateId=0%200%2010779846

which says that you need to make sure that vm is bridged with the correct adapter, I’ve already done that.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>overview.
local briding with the lan doesn’t seem to work correctly, the internet isn’t passed on to the bridged network.
From the bridged netwrok, i can ping external computers, but when I try to ping the server that the vm’s are localed on, the ip range is wrong.

I think I may be missing a step here where I configure local routing of some sort, any help would be awesome.
