Good morning.
I currently have a 45 user NT4 LAN that connects to the internet over ISDN 30 and use’s an Access 97 DB over the LAN. Very soon I will be installing a 2MB leased line from our office directly to a datahouse in London where SQL server 2000 database is held on a Dell PE 2650 Win2K. The SQL & IIS are installed on the same server initially for cost implecations but that will change over time. I plan to use a SonicWall SOHO firewall/VPN solution at both ends of the pipe to enable me to create a secure channel for our LAN users to transmit data. All other users who visit the site/database will have to login via browser. Can anyone please advise me on the following..
1] Is it possible for staff to use the Access 97 (LAN) & SQL server(WAN VPN). Basically can I set up another Win2K domain to run alongside my NT4 domain. On the NT4 domain users would continue to run down the AC97 DB until such time is was not needed. However should they need to access the SQL over the VPN they could log into another domain (Win2k)and utilise the 2MB line.
2] Can I set up the Firewall to block all incoming traffic to our LAN?
3] For remote users who access our DB/website thru other mediums (56K,ISDN,ADSL etc), how do I ensure they are communicating securely. Can I force them to use SSL for example, as they will be submitting Mortgage apps online. If so can you please point me in the right direction of how to achive this as I am struggling with this.
Thanx for your time in advance..
