32-bit OBDC app running very slow in 64bit Vista Ultimate

by bpowers . Updated 17 years, 5 months ago

I am testing a new Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit PC (Core 2 Quad, 6GB Ram) to see if it will run our legacy database we named “PASS” which has a VB based GUI and is feed date from our SQL Server 2005. The GUI was created in 2002 so it’s pretty old and probably needs to be updated to new SW soon. Anyway, connected PC to network, logged in, setup the ODBC for 32-bit via C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe, then loaded the PASS install routine and the program icon installed on desktop. I clicked to run the program and the result was it is working, connecting to server, but it is so slow as to make it unusable. On a 32-bit Vista machine all click actions and search actions are instantaneous but on the 64-bit PC it takes from 10 seconds to over a minute. And clicking X to close PASS takes even longer. Any help would greatly appreciated.
