3.5 Floppy Disk

by charles.ldaniel . Updated 23 years, 3 months ago

A user of mine had a 3.5 floppy disk that the shutter would not close when extracted from the floppy drive. She taped the shutter closed, inserted the disk into the 3.5 floppy drive, and tried to access the files on the disk. obviously, she would not be able to access the files with the shutter taped shut. She brought the disk to me and asked me to access the files for her on my PC. I was not able to access or see any files on the disk using windows explorer.

Info that it gave me was disk space used (834) and free space was (623). This indicated to me that something was on the disk.

Tried and failed:

Disk copy
accessing thru DOS
system tools in w2k (I was able to recover some file000.chk files.)

Questions:

1. Why can’t I access the files after I removed the tape?

2. Is there another way to recover the data.
