3com 3C509-TP NIC Card – Config Help

I have installed a 3C509TP in two computers (one running Win95 (No PnP) the other Win98 (PnP capable). Both PCs recognize the cards in device manager. IRQs and Input/Output Range are also correct. I can also use the 3com diagnostics program to configure the cards and run test. But when I try to run the 3com installation wizard, I get an error saying “There are no 3com cards recognized”.
I downloaded the software (Disk#1 and #2) from 3com web site. The date of manufacture of the cards is 1994.The 3C509 is not PnP capable as this is only available in the 3c509b.
Should I just give up trying to configure these old cards and purchase some new versions?
