8mm playback skips/sratchy sound

I have a couple of 8mm tapes that I want to convert to DVD. I’m using a Sony Handycam to look through the 8mm videos, but I noticed that the sound was skipping and sometimes could not even be heard. The video works perfectly fine, only the audio has the problem. It seems that every time a loud sound come on, it skips or completely stops. Some videos that have low sound work fine at that section, but when a section with high sound comes one, it skips or cannot be heard.
