For an Online Store, What’s More Important — Price or Performance?

I am trying to get a better idea from people running websites.

If you were picking hosting for an eCommerce site, would you go for something cheap like lifetime hosting, or spend more on a dedicated server for better performance?

What matters most to you price, speed, reliability, or something else?

Would love to hear your experiences and why you chose one over the other.
