about my router

i have my internet cable wich i plug it into my laptop so i can dial to my internet account. now i bought a wireless router (a TRENDnet one), i have a problem because i don’t know how to get my connection through the router without using my desktop as a server. i think i must configure my router to dial to my account on my laptop request but i don’t know how. please brothers help me. thank you
