Access Denied. You might not have permission to use this network resource

After reviewing many messages / comments on this topic and not getting results, I?m tossing my question into the ring.

Here goes: LT = laptop // PCx = desktop

This is a home network.

PC1 ? Dell / XP Pro SP3 / P4 2.53 / 512Mb
PC2 ? Gateway / W2K SP4 / P3 / 256Mb
LT ? Acer / XP Pro SP3 / P4 2.0 / 1Gb
Linksys WRT54G wired/wireless router
Charter cable Internet

Both PC?s can access the I-net via wired connection. LT can access I-net either by wired or wireless connection.

– All third party firewall S/W or MS firewall disabled

– All three have AVG antivirus.

– Simple File Sharing (SFS) is enabled on PC1 and PC2

– ?restrictanonyous? registry entry in PC1 and PC2 = ?0?

– There was discussion to try the following:
IPCONFIG /flushdns
IPCONFIG /registerdns
— no joy

– Workgroup = MSHOME for all

– There has been much discussion concerning all machines having the same Username and associated Password (PW)? but nowhere was there mention of which username. It certainly couldn?t be the principal log-on as each machine needs to be uniquely secured by its individual user? even in a home or very small biz environment. This only leaves the ADMINISTRATOR log-on and PW needing to be identical?Would this be a correct assumption?

– PC1 can see LT but not access shared folders / files. Receives the follow:

\\ComputerNameComputerDescription\Filename is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

– PC1 can see and access all shared files on PC2

– PC2 can see and access all shared files on PC1

– LT can?t see anything but itself

– Performing a MSCONFIG clean boot one at a time or together did not produce any joy either

Other than ?killing? the HDD?s and reinstalling XP pro (which the owner truly doesn?t want to do), does anyone have any further thoughts? Any and all insight greatly appreciated. I?ve been going in circles about this for months.

Thanks
