Access is Denied while accessing network

I have 2 computers – a laptop running windows xp home and a desktop running windows xp pro. When i try to access the desktop from the laptop, it says access is denied. i have looked for guidelines from several websites and finally found the problem – – the restrictanonymous value in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa automatically sets itself to 1. i have set it to 0 and tried restarting and repeating the procedure 7 to 8 times. Any fix?
